Boutiques This Week!

We are wrapping up our boutiques and this is the last week. Jenni and I have decided to team up with some neighbors of mine and have a little boutique at my house this week. If you know my address and would like to come, we would love to see you (if you don't have my address, email me and I will give it to you)! The ladies that are doing this with us have some REALLY cute stuff. Snowboard School

Before anyone thinks that I have jumped out of my comfort zone, let me set the record straight. Each year, the Deseret News sponsors a snowboard school at Snowbird and a ski school at Alta. Jody has been helping out with it for 6 or so years. I helped out at ski school for a couple years and then I was able to come down and do snowboard school with Jody for the last two or three years. Maybe some day I will actually participate myself-- for anyone who wants to prepare for next year, they offer a great deal. You get three lessons, end of November/early December and it is somewhere around $35. The last session you can stay and use the lifts, too. This is a FABULOUS deal, as I think I saw the lessons the resorts offer are much more $. The sign ups usually start in October, or maybe even late December and they teach anyone older than 8 (or somewhere around there).
Anyway so we are up here right now, and after I got over the stress of finding a babysitter all day (and the sun came out up here!) I have been able to enjoy it. Since Jody's computer is so handy, I snapped a few photos (I am sure people were wondering what the heck I was doing, moving the laptop all over the place to get the shot right...). This place is so beautiful. After the morning session, we usually go to the Forklift restaurant at the Snowbird Center and enjoy some yummy breakfast- I get the Dave's Loaded Spuds with yummy cheese, mushrooms and scrambled eggs and bacon. Sorry, food kind of rules my life (or lack of it) right now. I am a smell freak right now too. Its amazing I don't throw up cause MANY MANY things make me really want to...
ANYWHO- so while we were taking the shuttle to the center, I was taking in the scenery around me- the beautiful mountain, snow, trees, sun shining down (which has decided to go hide, unfortunately) and I just had to record this moment. I sound cheesy! In the Forklift there is a fireplace that I love; it is different and it reminds me of an old fireplace my grandparents used to have in their house, a long time ago, and it makes me feel like I am at home. I really enjoy being there, it is a home away from home, to come and eat and relax. I have not ever really been there when they are slammed (like maybe mid-season), but that is how it is when we are there.
Anyway I snapped a few shots-- the fireplace, Jody and I, the mountain view through one of the windows. I know I am missing out by not getting into the sport, but I can definitely appreciate why people love to come up here and get away from the world (though I must say some dress kind of crazy!).




I have been getting very little sleep, as I have postet previously, so I fell asleep at my table while I was reading- that is why I look like I just woke up :)
Tomorrow my baby girl turns two, and the pregnant hormonal part of me is about to start crying. I am just not ready for her to be a big girl. Well, sort of anyway. She seems way older than two to me, but maybe that is just what happens when its not the first kid. She speaks really well, she is really into sitting on the toilet. She is doing well with toilet training and I am not really doing it yet- I just have not had the time to devote, but I am going to soon. She loves little girl stuff- dressing up and anything that makes her even more "pretty."
Along with that, she loves Iron Man and all the super heroes that Ethan loves. I have been toying with the idea of getting this Wonder Woman costume I saw on ksl.com for her to wear next year for Halloween. Maybe if it was a theme, I would actually try harder. I am sure Ethan will want to be a super and Jody can be the Hulk again (though he may need new torn pants for that), so if Syd is WW, then I am going to have to get something, ha ha ha.
Okay I guess I better help Jody work. I am excited for her to get bigger, she is so sweet and I really love my Sydney Girl, but it is sort of difficult to watch her get bigger (funny, since I love seeing Ethan grow and learn).

ps. I am sorry if I scared anyone out of seeing the Twilight movie. Of the people I have chatted with about it, more have liked it than not. Hopefully it will make lots of money and I will like the next one better :)

$8.50 vs $1.50

I know, I should be asleep. But, I really needed to say a few words... this one is for Nicole-- "hold on spider monkey" (or something like that). WHAT THE?!?
Okay, inside jokes aside, I will tr to refrain from saying much for those who have not seen the Twilight movie yet. If you have not yet purchased tickets, and you think you can wait, this is definitely a Sandy Movies 9 kind of movie, if you catch my drift. There were parts where they were cute or whatever, but mostly, this movie is quite rushed, the plot skips around quite a bit (I wonder how a person who has never read the book would react to the show?) and the acting was terrible. I watched a spoofy trailer on Kristen Anselmo's blog and I am sorry to say that the acting in the movie was not much different than the spoof! Like I said, there were parts that were okay, but the rest was... awkward. I know, that is the point, I guess, of the relationship between Bella and Edward at first, but they tried too hard to be awkward and then it just made it even worse. And Robert needs to lay off the psycho facial expressions... I promised myself I would not launch a full review, so I will wrap this up. Nicole and I exchanged "what the ?!?" expressions the whole movie and we were DYING laughing when he said the spider monkey line to her (which our lovely neighbor did not appreciate much...). If you have your tickets, please, do not go with high expectations and good for you if your eyes are glazed over with so much infatuation for the book that you can overlook all the flaws of this film (same goes for the soundtrack). If you have never read the book and see the movie, I would love to hear what you think, but please, don't judge the book by the movie-- the book is much, much better.

In Addition (my thoughts, thoughts of others)

I was curious about what others had to say too, just to see if Nic and I were up in the night (hahaha no pun intended). Here are a few spot-on reviews, from Rotten Tomatoes.

"I know it's expected to be a huge blockbuster and all, but it's been quite some time since I've seen a would-be blockbuster so resolutely try to sabotage itself."

"Meyer is said to have been involved in the production of Twilight, but her novel was substantially more absorbing than the unintentionally funny and quickly forgettable film."

(what is SM to do, its not like she can tell them it sucks, and she is not going to say out loud that they did a crappy job, that would just be shooting herself in the foot, ya know? Let's hope movie 2 -- if there is one-- is better made)

"Consensus: Having lost much of its bite transitioning to the big screen, Twilight will please its devoted fans, but do little for the uninitiated."

"A disappointingly anemic tale of forbidden love that should satiate the pre-converted but will bewilder and underwhelm viewers who haven't devoured Stephenie Meyer's bestselling juvie chick-lit franchise."

"Soul-searching looks between young lovers can be fine--but when mutually-emphatic eyeballing stands in for a plot, it's insufferable. Bring a thermos of espresso. And an alarm clock."

(this aspect of the movie drove me crazy-- I felt like their glances at each other were, mostly, nothing short of psychotic!)
My personal favorite--

"On television critics might have hailed Twilight as one of the best things on TV. As a movie it's merely not terrible."

Did I mention that Rosalie was a huge disappointment? For someone who is supposed to be drop-dead (haha sorry about the bad humor, I did not get much sleep...) gorgeous, she was not even that pretty (the actress may be, but the way they did her all up was just not) and her hair looked kind of weird...

Okay, I guess I should be done posting others' reviews. A couple things that I hadn't said yet- I thought Edward's character was a lot more poised, smooth, etc. The screenwriters either portrayed him wrong or Pattinson just did not do a good job with that. I actually do think the two actors had good chemistry together, they just only gave a few glimpses of it.
I am glad I saw it, but these reviews are definitely accurate. Like I said. Dollar movie.

" I was deeply upset after seeing Twilight the movie for the second time last night at midnight. I saw it on Tuesday during the early premiere.
If you are someone who loves the books, the movie was a huge let down. Other than the beautiful Robert Pattinson on screen, the rest did not live up to my expectations.
There were several scenes added that didn't need to be there or ones that should have been there from the book that were not. This director should not be praised, but punished for ruining what I've been waiting months to see come alive.
You never once feel the love between Edward and Bella like you do in the book. There is no silly banter, awkward moments, nothing! THe movie seemed so rushed that you walked out of the theatre wondering what you actually just saw!

This is a major part in New Moon when Bella needs someone to comfort her, how is she going to run off ot Jacob when she saw him all of 2 times in the movie???
OR how about the fact that Billy doesn't drive! Thats why Bella got the truck, thats why Jacob is supposed to be around to drive him places???
Why or why did you take a story I feel in love with and rip it apart only to put the torn, messy, sopping with glue stick pieces back together out of order or with several important huges chucks of the pages missing???
I will continue to re-read the books so that I may live with the happy memory of the story I fell in love with....and Edward Cullen."
