That is a lot of Money

This article was sent to me by Kendra and written by Stephen Studdert, a former Stake President of mine (hers too).  He was a White House advisor to three US Presidents.  He is someone I trust. This article is from Meridian Magazine.  This is not stuff I enjoy reading, but I know I need to, so I did and thought I would share.

A Dangerous First 100 Days
By Stephen M. Studdert
This week President Barrack Obama marks his first 100 days in office. Never in my experience as a White House advisor or since have I witnessed such a torrid pace of monumental policy change. Cloaked in economic stimulus language, the astonishing breadth and depth of policy transformation and government intervention into the private economy is nothing short of staggering.
The corresponding velocity and mounting magnitude of federal spending is astounding, already 33% higher than the year-ago period. Federal budget deficits exceed anything in our national history. The budget deficit increased by $192.3 billion in just the month of March, over $40 billion more than projected, and is nearly $1 trillion just halfway through the budget year.
For the first six months of the federal budget year, the deficit totals $957 billion. The Obama administration projects the deficit for the entire year will hit $1.75 trillion - nearly four times the previous whopping annual record of $454.8 billion set last year.
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office now estimates President Obama's budget proposals will result in $9.3 trillion in deficits over the next decade, a figure already $2.3 trillion higher than estimates made in February.
These federal budget deficits will take our national debt to about 80 percent of our gross domestic product. Even spendthrift Europe denies membership in the European Union if a nation's debt is 60 percent of GDP.
In the last 18 months, our unrestrained federal government has spent or loaned or guaranteed a stunning $14 trillion - more than our gross domestic product and more than the national debt of our entire national history. U.S. government debt has almost doubled since November.
Dangerous federal intrusion into what have historically been community or private programs notwithstanding, the most important issue for now remains the economy. While Wall Street economists and some pundits in Washington are saying "the economy is showing signs of recovery", we each must listen carefully to the true story. This week Lawrence Summers, President Obama's key economic advisor, has admitted the U.S. economy "will continue to decline," with "sharp declines in employment for quite some time this year."
Dr. Summers is not alone. Vikram Nehru, the World Bank's chief economist for East Asia , makes similar predictions: "We are still in the middle of a perfect storm. Over the last four months things have gone from bad to worse in many of the advanced economies."
In 1981, Elder Bruce R. McConkie of the Quorum of the Twelve gave an address which he entitled "Parable of the Unwise Builder."
"A certain man inherited a choice piece of ground whereon to build an house to shelter his loved ones from storms of the day and the cold of the night. He began his work with zeal and skill using good materials for the need was urgent. But in his haste and because he gave no heed to the principles of proper construction, he laid no foundation; but commencing immediately, he built the floor and raised the walls and began to cover them with a roof. Then to his sorrow, because his house had no foundation, it fell and became a heap of rubble and those whom he loved had no shelter. Verily, verily, I say unto you, 'A wise builder, when he buildeth an house, first layeth the foundation and then buildeth thereon.'"
As a nation, with zeal and haste we are building just such a house - one of unwise and unrestrained federal debt - a house with no foundation that ultimately cannot stand.
With our national house being built on sand, more than ever each of us has a duty, to ourselves and to our families, to be informed. We need this economic information - no matter how serious and troubling it may be. And serious and troubling it is!
The grinding daily news unceasingly bombards our senses with gloomy information, and for most of us we end up with feelings of distress, worry, and even fear. It makes me not want to read or watch any news reports.
Yet the Lord commanded us to "seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith" (D&C 88:188)
Safety is found in being informed and then following the Brethren. Elder Russell M. Nelson has said, "Once you stop putting question marks behind the prophet's statements and put exclamation points instead, and do it, the blessings just pour."
In these troubled times, the welcome calming messages of General Conference just completed were especially inspiring and filled with hope. The Easter just celebrated renews in each of us a sense of everlasting gratitude for the King of Kings whose Resurrection made salvation and eternal life available to all. These are things of unspeakable joy, peace, comfort, and true happiness.
As we follow the Brethren and listen carefully and heed their inspired counsel, we like the Apostle Paul can say " We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair ." (2 Corinthians 4:8).
In what is sure to be an increasingly bumpy ride, individual and family peace and safety come only - but surely - when we are inseparably connected to the Prophets and Apostles, in word and in deed.

The Biggest Liar (spoiler alert)

HAHAHA. Well I love The Biggest Loser, it is a show I can't wait to watch each week. It is so inspirational, even though most of the time I watch it am sitting down, eating a bowl of ice cream :).
This season, the teams have mosty been enjoyable. I think its probably been my favorite season. I don't love the game aspect and I am always sad when someone has to go home. Last season was different. There came a point where I could barely watch, it was despicable. I love both Bob and Jillian, but Bob is my fave. One of the things I love about him, is his ability to put aside his dislike of someone and train them. And do a great job. You could tell that he did not like Vicky, she was a freaking BEAST! She was there to play a game and he worried that she would not lose weight at home because of that {total sidenote---she did not lose enough weight to win, but she tried. I almost felt bad for her. Watching her struggle- she had to go back to working as a nurse and being a mom, on top of the competition. She had to wake up at 4 am to work out. Have you noticed that those who have won have all been single and/or kid-free? What mom -with kids at home- has FOUR HOURS to dedicate to exercising so they can win?!?}
OK back on track. Kristen, Felipe- they get it! They both have had life-altering experiences, Their paradigms have shifted. I believe Tara is the same.
This is a game, but it is more than that. I hope that Tara and Helen realized that it was a mistake for Felipe to leave. It was a mistake for several reasons. Felipe is a team player, he has this amazing, positive outlook on life and is nothing short of inspirational (he does have his moments, but don't we all?). He is honest and real- none of this fake crap. He is there to inspire- help himself and others at the same time. From the beginning, Jody said Ron was up to something, and I still stuck by him a little (I liked everyone this season, up till recently). Then a few weeks ago, it became apparent to me that all he cares about is his son winning. Winning is important, but what the others want is so much more (to be an inspiration to people, a whole culture, etc). Ron is just a pusher. He does not seem to care about life changes; he just wants Mikey to win. I think Ron will go home and stop working hard (still work, just to make us think he "tried") so Mike is at better odds. He only did the bare minimum and hid behind his injuries. He smoothly manipulated everyone through this whole season and now I believe that he was all BS when he was talking about how he needed to be there (at least in regards to himself). The only thing he "needed" to be there for was to make sure Mike always had someone in his corner. Ron is as bad as Vicki, its just in a sly snake kind of way instead of raging beast :) {you know, how Mike said that his dad was "playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers"}. If America votes which one to not be in the final 3, I will def vote for MIKE, in hopes of ruining Ron's game play. Kind of like people voted for Ed, and Heba did not win. What goes around comes around. Mike has lost a lot of weight and I applaud him, but I still don't think he should win. He has let it all go to his head anyway. He is a cocky little sucker. Tara is the one I am cheering for now. She has what it takes to work hard and keep it off and I am confident that she will keep this change with her the rest of her life.
I am cheering on the Tongans for the at home challenge! Go Sione and Felipe! Oh ps, Brooke (sister in NYC) texted me one day and said that Damien & Nicole, and Sione & his wife were in a class took one night at her gym, 24 Hour Fitness! Kind of funny!

199.6

Okay this is way late, but I thought I would post it anyway. While we were in St George, Jody sent me a pic of him on the scale, and it read 199.6. For the first time in like 20 years or so, Jody is under 200! So here is a link to his column. If I can get my act together, I plan on doing a slideshow or something similar when he reaches his goal weight this summer. That will be somewhere between 158 and 170 lbs. According to WW, he needs to weigh 158, the other is teh doctor. So we will see.

Also, this weekend is Oh Sweet Sadie, and as you have read in months past, this is my favorite boutique we take part in. GREAT STUFF!

Check it out. Even if you don't buy anything, its fun to look at everything.

Amazing

I absolutely love the song this lady performs. If you have not seen it, it's worth the watch!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY. (Britain Idol, not sure the name of the show, a try out.)

In other news, not much is going on. Aidan is 6 weeks. We ran off to stay with my Grandma Kenney for a few days. It was hard to come home, especially now that it is snowing and FREEEEEEZing outside here! It was a good time, but my poor grandma was so busy with us there. I know she likes it, but I still feel bad. I was not sure how the drive as the only dult present would go, but it was fine and the trip really was good for me. I was able to get a little more sleep and it was nice to not have to worry about things you have to worry about at home. Plus my gma took the kids with her on her travels (as she calls them) and to the park, etc.
That was a bit ago- time flies. I can not believe I made it through these first weeks! Okay just kidding, but the last three have flown by. Aidan is doing better, though he does just cry for a reason I can't figure out. I chose those words on purpose because I personally don't feel like he is just colicky. He does not cry enough to be that. I think the reason I get so frustrated with his crying is cause I don't know why, so I can fix it or at least have an understanding of what he is feeling. This kid has really challenged my self confidence! As silly as that sounds (especially to me), sometimes when he cries, I feel like it is because of something that I am not doing or I am doing it, just not doing right. I also have these crazy thoughts that he does not love me or stupid things like that. Well yesterday I had an epiphany and my feelings towards him, and really just my understanding with regards to him, have been altered. I have always loved him, but I am not sure how to describe what I felt. I felt like we bonded just fine in the hospital, it all happened when I came home. Anyway, Ethan is a challenge to me sometimes, but he is my easiest personality to deal with. Sydney, she came at a good time, cause she was largely ignored for the first months of her life (or I feel like she was) but she was just fine. Many of her naps that first 6 months were spent lying on a blanket on the floor, where she had been playing. I just did not get to her in time, so that is where she ended up sleeping (I lay them on ground, on blanket to play or/and have tummy time). This kid is a lot more needy, and I won't go into my whole epiphany, but just that he must need me to give him more love and (me) not get so self-absorbed (that it has something to do with me) and give him the security he is craving. I am also trying to remember that this year is going to FLY by and to treasure his infancy. Even if he is sad a lot an I need him to smile at me (lol), these toes are not going to be this small for very long and I need to enjoy them while I can.
Easter was a bust. It was a great day but we did not get any great pics and none of Aidan with his Easter basket. Ethan got a bloody nose (and it was swollen and then he chose to have another skateboard issue and smacked his cheek into the sidewalk too) and it got all over his pants. So we will take pics in their clothes later. Oh yeah and Aidan hadn't pooed in a few days so of course, he did on Easter and so much he needed his clothes changed. Freak!
Kids are an adventure!

The Best Preschool

I just wanted to share this information- for those who live near and are looking for a preschool. I really like this preschool. Miss Crystal has been teaching Ethan this past school year and he has learned SO MUCH! He is always singing a new jingle or mentioning tid bits here and there of what he has learned. She has a great program and I really like the way she teaches. This preschool is also affordable as well, $50 a month, and its twice a week. Ethan has grown up a lot in this class. It has been so worth it. They even say the Pledge of Allegiance each day! It is pretty cute, watching all the little kids interact and learn. They do a lot of art projects and work with music a lot, which I particularly appreciate. Ethan is starting to write his name, even though it needs a lot of work, and he recognizes the letters in his name as well. The kids take turns being the leaders for different things and he is getting better at the whole "my turn" concept as well as I have seen him increase his self esteem and confidence from this. I just love this preschool and wanted to recommend it to anyone who may be interested!

Pardon the Sarcasm

I know my Heavenly Father knows and loves me. Why else would I be receiving so much love from everyone? The truth is, if this baby, cute as he may be WHILE SLEEPING, would be an only child if I would have had him first. That is a sure way to know, or confirm, how well He knows me. Which means that if He wants there to be more, this kid is going to have to really turn on the charm and be a really good toddler. Otherwise folks, my family is complete (that says a lot since I have always planned on four kids. Jody too). I don't think I can go through this night too many more times than this and have everything be okay. Or even look okay. I am going to call the doctor today, on the off chance I am not just being tortured, to see if there is something actually wrong with him or if I am just doomed to this predicament for a few weeks/months. If I am stuck with this, I hope I pull through and shine as opposed to what I feel might really happen (me checkout). One person can only go so long without sleep, and even if the time is provided for me by someone else, I am not sure I can actually be successful at making myself sleep when the opportunity is there. Don't get me wrong, I will definitely try, I am just so worried that it may just be like I am being teased and not work out. While I am traumatizing my kids with my honesty, I honestly hope that some day I feel like all of this is worth it.
